Mobile Use Soars in the U.S.; New Opportunities for Content Marketers

Mobile device use in the U.S. is up, according to a July 2012 study by comScore

If you’re a content marketer, mobile is in your future.

More than 234 million Americans ages 13 and older used mobile devices from April-July, according to a study by comScore. Additionally, more than 114 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during that same period, up 7%.

Google Android was the top smartphone platform with 52.2% of market share, while Apple claimed 33.4% and RIM had 9.5%. Apps are huge: The study found app downloads have increased, with 52.6% of mobile subscribers getting at least one app in the past three months — that’s an increase from last year’s 40.6%.

Mobile advertising is projected to reach $2.5 billion by 2014 in the U.S. — an incredible opportunity for content marketers to increase engagement and reel in customers. What do all these numbers mean for content marketers? Lots of opportunities for content!

Clients who are not focused on mobile, that don’t create mobile content that’s easily shared and accessible AND who don’t ensure their sites are mobile optimized, are missing out on valuable customers.
